Yuka is a student from Japan studying a Master of Interaction Design at the University of Technology, Sydney.

About Yuka

Yuka Maruyama is a deaf international student from Japan pursuing a Master of Interaction Design at UTS. Her personal experience living as a deaf person fuels her advocacy for inclusive education, seen through her volunteer teaching across five Asian countries and her work developing game-based Augmented Reality (AR) tools to support English learning in Cambodia.

 

At UTS, Yuka is a champion of wellbeing through her mentoring of peers, advocating for mental health, and promotion of gender equity in STEM fields. She holds key volunteer roles, from welcoming new international students to organising major wellbeing initiatives and representing UTS at campus events. As a Woman In Gender Equity Ambassador, she inspires girls to enter Engineering and IT and fosters inclusive learning. Yuka’s student mentoring in AR/VR projects with the Australian Museum further showcase her impact and dedication to expanding public education and access.
