Under the NSW International Education Recovery Strategy, the NSW Government through Study NSW is working with industry and providers to leverage the state’s strengths and lead the tech-enabled recovery, growth, and diversification of the international education sector.
The pandemic has accelerated the transformation of the international education sector as evolving learner preferences, travel behaviour changes and innovations in EdTech challenge existing models of education delivery and engagement. With these changes come opportunities.
Study NSW is working with the state’s EdTech and international education sectors to maximise these opportunities by:
Each year Study NSW co-funds industry-led projects that foster innovation and address strategic priorities across the NSW international education sector. In 2022-23, Study NSW is working with English Australia and BONARD to identify opportunities to deploy EdTech and online learning in the English language education field.
Study NSW and Investment NSW’s Tech Services team has partnered with Australia’s EdTech industry hub EduGrowth to encourage alignment and closer collaboration between the NSW Government and the state’s EdTech ecosystem. In 2022-23, we are hosting four industry roundtables focussed on export development and industry engagement.
Study NSW is working with Sydney tech hub Haymarket HQ to build export capability and explore opportunities for NSW EdTechs with capability in domains outside of school and tertiary level education. Using Haymarket HQ’s extensive local connections in EdTech startups and scale-ups, this partnership will support NSW’s cutting-edge companies to leverage their competitive advantage on the global stage.
NSW’s Higher School Certificate (HSC) is a world-class secondary school credential. It is managed by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) which is also responsible for teacher training and accreditation programs.
Study NSW has partnered with NESA to identify opportunities for offshore delivery of the HSC, backed by NESA’s leading teacher training and quality assurance programs. Initial scoping and sector consultations are underway.
The Going Global Export Program provides NSW small to medium enterprises with a suite of support measures to help them attain new business in targeted global markets. Since 2021, the NSW Government has supported EdTech programs and missions to Indonesia, India and the UK and a software as a service (SaaS) program to the US.
Study NSW values the diversity in educational innovation offerings available throughout NSW and is working across government and industry to leverage innovative ideas, products and services through entrepreneurship. NSW has a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem where students can engage in work and study opportunities that will serve as a catalyst for economic development, social change and the development of crucial skills and capabilities. NSW Government support includes three innovation hubs (Sydney Startup Hub, Tech Central Scaleup Hub and Western Sydney Startup Hub), a free community workspace on Level 1 of the Sydney Startup Hub and an online community platform.
