I am an international student in NSW. How can I be nominated or how can I nominate another international student?
International students in NSW have to be nominated by your education institution. If you are an international student who has contributed to the community in such a way that it deserves special recognition, approach your education provider to nominate you for the NSW International Student of the Year Award (in one of the four categories). If you would like to nominate another international student studying in NSW that has greatly contributed to the community, contact their education provider to nominate them.
I am an international student in NSW and wish to nominate for the Awards – but who should I approach at my education institution?
The education provider needs to nominate the student and submit the nomination to Study NSW. If you are unsure which staff member you should speak to, start with talking to your lecturer/teacher or student support staff. Show them the information online about the Awards. They should be able to tell you who can help you with the nomination. If staff at your education institution have questions about the nomination process, they can contact Study NSW (study.nsw@investment.nsw.gov.au).
I am an international student in NSW. How can I nominate my education provider?
If your education provider has run excellent initiatives to connect international students to the wider community, please encourage them to nominate for the International Student Community Engagement Award (Education Provider). Please discuss this with the organiser or administrator of the program or initiative you believe should be nominated. They can self-nominate and you can provide a recommendation. If your education institution has questions about the nomination process, they can contact Study NSW.
I am an international student in NSW. How can I nominate a business or community group that I believe deserves an award?
If you know a business or community group who has run initiatives to connect international students to the wider community, encourage them to nominate for the International Student Community Engagement Award (Business and Community Group). Please talk to your contact person at the business or community group you would like to nominate. They can self-nominate and you can provide a recommendation. If they have questions about the nomination process, they can contact Study NSW.
For education providers
I am an education provider in NSW. How can I nominate one of our students for the NSW International Student of the Year Award?
You can nominate the students you think have gone above and beyond in working with the community, or with community groups – up to two students per category. Students cannot self-nominate, the education provider needs to submit the nomination. Contact Study NSW if you have any questions about the nomination process.
I am an education provider in NSW. How can I nominate one of our programs?
Self-nominations are accepted for the NSW International Student Community Engagement Awards category. If you have run a great program or initiative connecting international students with the wider community in 2021, please nominate your program or initiative for the NSW International Student Community Engagement Award (Education Providers).
I am an education provider in NSW. How can I nominate a program of a partner education institutions/business/community group?
If you know a business or community group who has run initiatives to connect international students to the wider community, or if you have worked with a business or community group on one of your initiatives, then nominate them for the International Student Community Engagement Award. You can nominate on behalf of an education institution/business/community group, but please let them know you are nominating them. We'll require their contact details on the nomination form.
For business and community groups
I am a business/community group in NSW. How can I nominate one of our programs?
Self-nominations are accepted for the NSW International Student Community Engagement Awards category. If you are a business or community group and you have worked on programs or initiatives that connect international students closer to the NSW community from 2021, we encourage you to nominate for the NSW International Student Community Engagement Award (Business and Community).
I am a business or community group in NSW. How can I nominate an international student for the NSW International Student of the Year award?
If you work closely with an international student and believe this outstanding student has greatly contributed to the community, contact their education provider to nominate them. All nominations for the NSW International Student of the Year award need to be submitted by the student's education institution. You can offer a reference to be included on the nomination. Please note the student needs to be informed that he/she will be nominated for this award.
Nomination process and timing
When do nominations open and close?
Nominations are open now so complete and submit the online form any time before Friday 1 July 2022. Try not to wait till the last minute to submit the nomination!
I am trying to submit a nomination online but it's not working – what do I do?
Email study.nsw@investment.nsw.gov.au and we will be in contact to resolve your issues.
How long will it take before I hear back about your nomination?
Nominations close on Friday 1 July 2022. Nominations will then be assessed by the Awards Panel. After this, referee checks will be done by Study NSW in July. Finalists will be announced will be announced in September.
How will references be checked?
Study NSW will conduct reference checks via email or call the references indicated on the nomination.
When will I know if a nomination is successful? Will I be notified?
If your nomination is successful this means you are a finalist to the 2022 NSW International Student Awards. Study NSW will contact all successful nominees by phone and/or email. For the NSW International Student of the Year Awards, we will contact your nominator (at your education institution) and will ask them to be in touch with their nominated international student. For the NSW International Student Community Engagement Award Study NSW will contact the nominee directly.
How many finalists are selected per category?
There are typically three finalists per category. However, there could be more or less, depending on the number of nominations and on the decision of the Awards Panel.
If I am a finalist, what happens then?
Study NSW will first ring you to let you know the good news. We will then send you an email with all information you need to know about preparing for the awards ceremony. You can contact Study NSW at any time if you have any questions.
Awards ceremony
Where will the ceremony be held? If I am a finalist do I need to attend the ceremony?
The ceremony details will be confirmed shortly, however the ceremony will likely be held in-person and live streamed to a global audience.
I am a finalist – can I invite guests to the ceremony?
Yes, you will be able to invite guests to join the virtual ceremony. In addition, your referees and nominator, and representatives from your education institution (for the NSW International Student of the Year award) will also be invited.
When will invitations to the ceremony be sent?
The invitation will be sent around four weeks prior to the ceremony.
