Why did you choose to study in this field?
After obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, I developed a keen interest in geotechnical engineering. I was eager to delve deeper into the complexities of the soil and rock materials that provide support to large structures such as bridges, high-rise buildings, and tunnels. I sought to gain a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of soil and rock strength, including particle-particle interactions.

Studying in NSW provided me with one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I had access to world-class research facilities, vast online and library resources and invaluable support from my research supervisor and team. I also had the opportunity to attend international conferences and learn from renowned scholars in my field, exchange research ideas with my peers, and develop valuable connections in the academic community.
Did you work or undertake projects with employers or industry groups during your studies? If yes, how did this experience benefit your career?
I am very lucky to have had the opportunity to work as a geotechnical engineer for one of the largest engineering consultancies during my studies. This allowed me to gain a wealth of practical experience and apply my engineering knowledge to real-world scenarios. It was truly exhilarating to see how engineering solutions could positively impact society and contribute to its betterment.

What are you doing now in your career?
I am a Design Manager at Transport for NSW.
Why did you decide to follow your chosen career path?
My current job provides me with a challenging and rewarding opportunity to manage complex projects and ensure their successful delivery.
This role also provides me with an opportunity to keep up to date with the latest technology development in my field and further develop my technical expertise.
Moreover, the role allows me to build strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and lead project teams to deliver successful outcomes, which is something that I find enjoyable and rewarding.
Can you share any career advice for current students or graduates?
Believe in yourself and be persistent. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do. Set up your goal and work hard to achieve it.
Do you remain involved in NSW?
Yes. I am living and working in Sydney now. I consider Sydney my second home.
