Fun fact
I love to stay active! I enjoy taking yoga and meditation classes.
What has been your favourite experience in NSW?
One of my most gratifying experiences has been volunteering as a Research and Program Development Volunteer at The Salvation Army. I got to work alongside people experiencing homelessness to support their goals. It helped me gain insights into the social construction of homelessness. I developed the ability to learn new and challenging tasks which acted as a precursor to getting employment in the Community Services.
I also had the opportunity to engage in the 2018 Change Initiative program hosted by Oxfam Australia. Under this youth community program, I learned the skills and confidence to address issues of global inequality in local communities. I gathered over 50 petition signatures for the Whatshemakes campaign. I am glad to be involved in the campaign as it urges companies to take crucial steps in creating a fairer garment industry.
It was a pleasure to study in NSW. It offered a safe environment for positive learning. I appreciated the depth and quality of the teaching material and all of the creative ways presented throughout the course. I believe the education I have obtained in NSW has prepared me to make an impact upon the field of social work and the communities around me.

What advice do you have for other international students?
From my observation, the absence from the community outside the educational institute can create social isolation. It can have a negative impact on the well-being of an international student. Therefore, I would encourage international students to absorb oneself in the society, culture, and customs of the host country. I would strongly recommend finding motivations that enable socialisation to make the most of studying in New South Wales. Other than that, be real, authentic and own your worth. Treat others with respect and refuse to tolerate being treated unfairly.
What opportunities has studying in NSW given to you?
My course (Masters in Social Work) allowed me to develop a strong knowledge base in social work, issues and policy. Through the course I discovered my passion for serving vulnerable populations and promoting social justice which I have been able to develop throughout my education and work experiences. I strongly feel that I have learned a lot about myself not only as a student but as an individual in the process of studying in NSW. Learning from experts in the field and sharing class space with students from all over the world has given me a global perspective. Studying in NSW has given me the most fulfilling opportunities to volunteer for several organisations such as The Salvation Army and Oxfam Australia to participate in workshops, training, and conferences. Through participating in local events, tours, coastal treks, art and theatre I have increased my confidence, independence and socio-cultural adaption.
