Arum is a Chinese student at Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School. Since arriving in Australia, Arum has fostered strong ties to Parramatta as an active participant in local activities including advocating for social justice and sustainability and assisting in food drives to help those in need.
Arum loves to give back and bring people together. As a member of the student representative council, Arum organised multicultural dances with people from diverse backgrounds on Harmony Day. This links to her future plans to become an orchestral musician, collaborating with other talented artists and touring the world to bring joy to people through music. Arum is proud of her dedication to causes and to balancing personal goals and the need to serve.
Khanh Chi (Kathy) Nguyen is a Vietnamese student at Dulwich High School of Visual Arts & Design. Since arriving in Australia in 2019, Kathy has made her mark on the local community.
Growing up in Hanoi instilled in Kathy the traditional Vietnamese values of compassion and kindness, which later influenced her leadership and volunteer work. In 2021, she became School Captain where she has organised fundraising events including to support Vouch for Lismore, World’s Greatest Shave, and Black Rainbow.
Kathy proudly embraces and honours her Vietnamese heritage, and generously shares her culture with the NSW community. She has been a guest speaker for the University of Sydney Vietnamese International Students Society (VISES) and collaborated with education agent SET Education to assist Vietnamese international students as part of the UniTour Series and Study Abroad Summer Tour.
In the future, Kathy hopes to continue to support and inspire the international student community as a high school teacher.
Nhat Minh (William) is a Vietnamese year 12 student at Canley Vale High School. William has been involved in a variety of campaigns that have positively impacted his school and the wider community.
As a member of the student representative council, William represents his peers and works to break down cultural barriers. As a member of the local Lion Dance team, William has increased public awareness and understanding of Vietnamese traditions. He has also embraced his Vietnamese culture as a mentor and leader of the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement in Sydney, where he organises activities for Vietnamese children to develop cultural knowledge and life skills. William has also participated in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave campaign.
William dreams of becoming a high school teacher and continuing to produce informative content on his YouTube channel to promote NSW education.
