NSW welcomes international students

20 July 2015

StudyNSW has opened a welcome desk for international students at Sydney International Airport

Airport welcome desk

The welcome desk is located at Arrivals Hall A, Terminal 1. During peak periods the desk is open from 7-11am and from 6-10pm, 7 days a week. Outside of the semester intake period the desk will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7am-12pm.

The welcome desk is staffed by local and international student volunteers through a work integrated learning program. The volunteers greet students and offer orientation advice including maps and information about accommodation and transport. iPads on the desk also offer information and will direct students to StudyNSW's website.

The 12 month pilot project has been co-funded by a consortium including StudyNSW, Destination NSW, Australian Catholic University, Charles Sturt University, Macquarie University, University of Sydney, University of Newcastle, University of New South Wales, University of Technology Sydney, Western Sydney University, University of Wollongong, TAFE NSW, NSW Department of Education, English Australia and is supported by the Council of International Students Australia (CISA).

A steering committee representing all partners will assess its effectiveness after one year and make recommendations for future improvements.

Work Integrated Learning Opportunity

StudyNSW in partnership with NSW education institutions and key sector stakeholders is launching our second round for expressions of interest in this program.

The key features of this service are to greet and provide orientation information to the tens of thousands of international students who pass through the airport each year.

This service operates, currently, from 7-12am Friday-Sunday. During the peak arrival time of Jan/Feb it will operate from 7-11am and 6-10pm. We want you to be a part of it. We are looking for students to take part in a Workplace Integrated Learning (WIL) Program with their institutions and the NSW Government.
