Lord Mayor welcomes international students to Sydney
15 May 2019
Study NSW was proud to support the recent City of Sydney Lord Mayor’s Welcome event for international students at Sydney Town Hall. The event was an opportunity to welcome and celebrate the arrival of international students studying in Sydney, and recognise the cultural diversity and skills international students contribute to the wider community.
The event connected international students with community support services and organisations that assist students during their studies in Sydney. Representatives from a diverse range of organisations were present at the event including NSW Police, City of Sydney Library, Study NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW, Redfern Legal Centre and tertiary education institutions.
The night was deemed a great success with over one thousand attendees. Study NSW was proud to be a major sponsor and shared programs and initiatives with guests and volunteers. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet international students and hear about their living and studying experiences in Sydney.
Students shared their experience in a new Instagram photo competition with #studysydney and #myfuturesydney. The winner will receive a travel voucher and finalists will have afternoon tea with the Lord Mayor in July. The event also marked the launch of My Legal Mate, an app tailored to provide legal support for international students in NSW.
Following the success of the City of Sydney welcome event for international students, the City of Parramatta will host a welcome event for international students on the 20th May 2019.
