The 2022 NSW International Student Awards winners have now been announced!
Christiane Teixeira Vasconcellos (Brazil)
Torrens University Language School
Christiane is a Brazilian student at Torrens University Language Centre studying English. Christiane was due to arrive in September 2020 but had to postpone multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Christiane was a doctor in Brazil and with her improved English language skills hopes to register as a doctor in Australia. Christiane meets with a group of doctors fortnightly to gain insight into the Australian health sector and has recently enrolled in the Master of Business Administration and Master of Public Health double degree at Torrens University Australia.
Christiane is determined to follow her passion. At 47 years old, she wants to prove that it is never too late to reach your personal goals. She hopes her story will inspire many other international students, especially those struggling with the English language.
Marcela Soares Gigliotti De Carvalho (Brazil)
ILSC Sydney
Marcela is a Brazilian student at ILSC Sydney studying English. She moved to Australia to improve her language skills and understanding of different cultures.
Marcela lives on the NSW Central Coast and her two-hour daily commute to the Sydney campus does not hinder her community engagement. This includes her environmental contribution, working with other postgraduate volunteers at Taronga Zoo to develop online and onsite conservation workshops. Marcela has also volunteered at the Australian Museum, helping to transcribe the entomological collection into an online format.
Marcela’s most valuable experience in NSW to date has been the connections she made with her teachers and peers. In the future, she wants to teach young minds to seek a better world.
