Tell us about your experience studying in NSW

When I was in high school, I travelled to Sydney and I loved the city. Later, when I was accepted into the University of Sydney, I was so excited to come back and live here. Sydney has the perfect mix of nature and the city life. I really enjoy visiting the beautiful beaches and going on relaxing bush walks. Everything is so accessible in Sydney and it is easy to travel around NSW too.

During my time studying in NSW, I have travelled all over the east coast of Australia with friends that I have made whilst studying. I’ve really enjoyed the weekends when we rent a car and drive to different cities and towns across NSW. It’s so refreshing to see different places.

What has been your favourite experience in NSW?

The highlight of my time studying in NSW has been the people I’ve met and the things they have taught me. In India, everything you learn about the world is theoretical, but in Australia I’ve met people of various nationalities that have taught me all about the world. There are so many social opportunities to meet new and interesting people.

My classes are really engaging too, especially in my sociology course. Often our discussions will continue beyond the classroom and into the library or a coffee shop. I’ve really enjoyed learning about other perspectives and experiences from the people I meet.

What advice do you have for other international students?

The reason I have had a great time is because I’ve immersed myself in social activities, groups and meeting new people. My advice is to get involved in university life and put yourself out there. There are over 200 societies at the University of Sydney that you can get involved in and they cater to all interests.

I would also recommend that you make the most of what Sydney has to offer – including the natural environment, beaches and bush walks. I’m constantly surprised about how much I can learn and experience in Sydney, it is the best place I have ever lived.

What opportunities has studying in NSW given to you?

I always knew I wanted to study law. The University of Sydney offers a five-year law degree which is widely recognised internationally, so that is a huge advantage. I’ve also had the opportunity to work as a Student Ambassador, which is something I am really passionate about. I get to meet new people from all over the world and share my own experience of coming to Sydney. I’ve also had the opportunity to volunteer for local charities and be part of the community. All of these experiences have helped me grow as a person. It has been a life-changing experience.
