Tell us about your experience studying in NSW
Studying in NSW has been a really rewarding experience. I came to Newcastle to complete an MBA and I am very happy I chose this city. The university offers so many opportunities to connect with new people, volunteer and network. I recently travelled to several regional cities in NSW for my degree – including Dubbo, Orange, Tamworth and Coffs Harbour – to learn more about different social, political and business practices in these regions. I am also part of the Indian Students Association at Newcastle University and I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer in the community. These experiences have enriched my experience of studying in NSW.
I really enjoy the lifestyle in Newcastle too. I have time to study and time to explore all the beautiful areas around where I live. My favourite places include the Merewether Ocean Baths, Queens Wharf and Hickson Street Lookout.

What has been your favourite experience in NSW?
My favourite experience has been meeting new people. It can be difficult to move to a new place, but it was really easy to make new friends in Newcastle. Everyone is very open, welcoming and respectful. I attended university events and student nights and my circle of friends grew quickly. The community is very diverse too.
What advice do you have for other international students?
My advice would be to do your research and explore the opportunities available for international students. There is so much on offer and so many great places to study across NSW. For me, I enjoy living in Newcastle because it is a mix between the city and a regional town. It’s safe, diverse, easy to travel to and the natural landscape is beautiful. It’s an exciting place to be, but it is also relaxing. I feel proud to study in Newcastle, and you will too.
What opportunities has studying in NSW given to you?
I have made friends from all over the world and this has given me the opportunity to learn about different countries, cultures and languages. I have friends from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Russia and Turkiye, and although we have had different experiences, everyone is open to listening and sharing their perspectives and cultures. I am also a huge foodie! I love to explore new restaurants and experiment with new cuisines with my friends.
