Tell us about your experience studying in NSW

My journey started when I received a regional scholarship to study a Diploma of Remedial Massage at TAFE NSW Port Macquarie. Back in Thailand, I completed a local qualification in massage, but I wanted to learn more about massage and develop my skills in Australia. I was so excited when I received the scholarship, as I knew this would give me the opportunity to expand my knowledge, gain international work experience and also improve my English language skills.

What has been your favourite experience in NSW?

I was curious about what life would be like in regional NSW. Now, I realise that moving here was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Port Macquarie is paradise. It is a peaceful area and you are surrounded by nature. I enjoy waking up in the morning and going for a walk along the beach. Everything I need is very close – including the beaches and the river – and everyone is so friendly. I feel very lucky to live in Port Macquarie.

What advice do you have for other international students?

If you’re not a city-person, consider moving to regional NSW. There are so many places to explore. The people are friendly and the regional towns are beautiful. It is easy to find somewhere relaxing to study,  casual work for students is available and good accommodation is affordable.

What opportunities has studying in NSW given to you?

Studying in NSW has given me the opportunity to work, learn and volunteer at the same time. My TAFE classes are on Monday and Tuesday, and later in the week I go to the library to study. I also have time to work and practice the skills that I am learning at TAFE. On Fridays, I volunteer at a local historical site, the old courthouse, where I provide visitors with information. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and learn about the history of Port Macquarie. There are so many opportunities in NSW to develop personally and professionally.
